Overview

Spectacular fauna, fabulous birds, mammals of all sizes, primates, amphibians, fish, insects, arachnids. Join in on our ongoing projects and experience them all, and more. Learn from the younger generation as they learn from you. Share culture, science and life skills with future Eco-Leaders. Tap into your creative side. Design and create innovative exhibits for our museum to get visitors even more connected to nature.

Pilar is the capital of Neembucu, the south-westernmost state in Paraguay. It’s home to fish, frogs, snakes, and insects some of which may never have been documented before. You can join in our waterside surveys on the Rio Paraguay and its tributaries. Or throw your weight behind our 21st century conservation projects in the local area. Learn aquatic and terrestrial science techniques and help to build the first ever inventory and understanding of the native wildlife.

One of the most spectacular, and most threatened, habitats in the world is the Atlantic Forest of South America. In Paraguay, only 2% of the forest remains, due to the rapid expansion of agriculture. The remaining forest is found in small isolated fragments, one of which is San Rafael National Park.

At Nueva Gambach, one of the properties in the San Rafael area run in collaboration with conservation organisation PRO COSARA, you’ll work with the primate team, studying all aspects of the ecology of capuchin monkeys. You’ll learn alongside other budding primatologists while exploring the depths of the Atlantic Forest and learning about neo-tropical ecology. Week-long trips are available most weeks of the year, and incur an additional cost of $30 per trip to cover fuel. Ask about upcoming trips when you apply.
