Overview

Volunteers will work and stay on and around the island of Nosy Komba. Nosy Komba is a small volcanic island located northwest of Madagascar. It’s situated between the island of Nosy Be and the Mainland. Its highest point is the Antaninaomby volcano, at 622 meters altitude. It houses many families of maki (lemurs), considered sacred by the islanders.

也叫八卦Ambariovato,意思是“岛surrounded by rocks“, its coast is dotted with small coves with clear, warm waters sheltered from volcanic rock formation. Coated with a dense and thick tropical forest, it is home to a rich fauna and varied flora. Many villages populate the coast and the mountains of Nosy Komba. Its total population is estimated at 7,000 people, nearly 50% less than 20 years ago. To reach Nosy Be and other islands nearby, there are ways of public transportation (boat taxis) accessible from the village of Ampangorina or Floraly Komba.

Volunteers will help to collect key data on whales, dolphins, and whale sharks all found in the northwest part of Madagascar. You will be trained to record data, take part in awareness presentations, conduct beach cleans, learn about the area’s cetaceans and become part of the community. You will be working with natives and residents of Madagascar that worked years in presenting to tourists the life changing experience that Nosy Komba and the area's marine wildlife offers. The program was created to blend our talents, love and pride of the environment in hopes of creating protected areas to preserve as much of it as possible. Your efforts will not be forgotten by us, the local village and certainly not by you, so come be a part of the adventure.
